Angie infront of Bianca left and Jannitta right.
Normally it’s about 6-7 hrs drive which would get us there before 6pm, so we could attend the technical meeting at 6pm and the spaghetti dinner at 7pm. Jannitta, Diederik and I were traveling through Germany and 30min outside of Basel when someone in our car (won’t mention any names) decided that we should stop for petrol before we got into Switzerland. HE filled the complete tank up only to realize that he put the wrong fuel in – Benzene instead of Diesel. So, we had to wait an hour for a Mechanic to come and pump it out, then fill it back up, then test it. 3 hours and 250 Euro later, we arrived at the Hotel only to have missed the technical meeting and the spaghetti dinner (we managed to find some warm left over spaghetti). Desly said they had also missed the technical meeting, as they were stuck in traffic for an hour. The good thing about all this was that the race wasn’t until Saturday night at 7.30pm.
Angie start lead of TTT infront of Jannitta, Bianca and Hilde.
With Basel being our first World Inline Cup race, racing as a new team and for the first time in the Basel Team Time Trials, we didn’t really know what to expect - except that we had to skate strong and fast for 25km and times were taken on the first two athletes. As if that wasn’t enough, it also had to be in the rain on a wet 5km road course, slippery cobble stones, sharp turns and a downhill (which you would think was scary but turned out to be the best part of the course, and where you could take a rest). We were the 3rd last team out of the gate, with me starting the lead. For 3 of the 5 laps, Hilde, Jannitta and I shared the leads trying to keep Bianca in the group until we needed to use her as she was really only good for one lead (Bianca is good at the shorter distances). Bianca led on the 4th lap for a while before tiring. She tried to hang on but couldn’t quite get back on the group so we had to leave her. Our plan was to start off easy and make every lap faster each time, which we did. As we came through for the last lap, we were 10 seconds behind team Zepto and sitting in 6th place. Jannitta lost our wheel on one of the corners which meant it was left to Hilde and me to set the time. We came home strong only finishing 6seconds behind Zepto and in 6th Place. It would have been nice to make top 5, but we had to be content with 6th in our first Basel TTT.
